During a casual browse on Instagram, a photo of a Monstera I had not seen before got my attention. This particular photo made me think it must be an AI generated art: too good to be true.
This new plant, called “Devil Monster”, looks a bit like the mint type, but the amazing symmetry, with white in the middle of the leaf and green on the edges, makes it look more like a natural pattern, rather than a mutation.
The only credible information online about this wonder in on MonsteraX. Under the category ‘Ultra rare’, this website about rare plants announced that at Bangkok International Exotic Plants and Sale, a new Monstera Deliciosa Sport was sold for almost $40.000.
A Sport is “is any sudden and spontaneous mutation that causes a distinct and observable difference in a plant from its related counterparts”, according to Monstera Sports.
Google search revealed only a few results, Instagram hashtags at the moment have under 20 posts, but I managed to find a photo of this unicorn on the Facebook page of the Bangkok Plant Show, which made this very credible.
Moreover, I went through all the posts I found on Instagram under the hashtag #monsteradevilmonster and I believe a plant nursery in Bangkok, Thailand is responsible for this beauty – Brandith Variegated. On 1st of March, first day of the Plant Show in Thailand, they posted a video (see below) with the caption “My plant & New Collection Monstera Devil Monster ????”.
The stories are true; the unicorn is real!
