Monstera Siltepecana is a reasonable choice for a Halloween promotion, considering the name comes from the Latin “monstrum”, which means, obviously, monster.

Beware! Monstera Siltepecana, with discreet silvery shades, and typical fenestrations on mature plants trained on moss poles, is toxic because it contains calcium oxalate crystals, that can irritate the skin, eyes, mouth, and digestive tract.
I bought a healthy young plant over a year ago and trained it on a moss pole to encourage fenestrations. Unfortunately, I used a poorly made one that couldn’t be extended and I had to start over this summer.
Nevertheless, I created a pot with more vines, and was left with a lot of baby plants, already rooted on the moss pole. Since last winter didn’t go into dormancy and kept growing, I’m confident it will get to a decent size in no time.
Some of the baby plants are growing in a tiny pot and made an appropriate choice for this Halloween promotion. Of course I dived a bit in DIY and repurposed a toy cauldron as a planter for a spooky vibe.

Although it is a low maintenance plant, it requires appropriate conditions to thrive, so I added some guidelines for this fascinating plant.
Care guide
Light
* Bright, indirect light: Mimic its natural habitat by providing bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves.
Watering
* Allow top inch to dry: Let the top inch of soil dry out before watering. This prevents root rot.
* Regular watering: During the growing season (spring and summer), water every 1-2 weeks. Reduce watering in the fall and winter.
* Avoid overwatering: Ensure your pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
Humidity
* High humidity: These plants thrive in high humidity. Mist the leaves regularly, use a humidifier, or place the pot on a pebble tray filled with water.
Temperature
* Warm temperatures: Maintain temperatures between 65-85°F (18-30°C). Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Soil
* Well-draining potting mix: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter.
* Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years during the growing season to provide fresh nutrients and space for root growth.
Fertilizing
* Balanced fertilizer: Feed your Monstera Siltepecan with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer).
* Dilute fertilizer: Follow the package instructions and dilute the fertilizer to avoid fertilizer burn.
Support
* Climbing plant: Provide a moss pole for your plant to climb. This encourages healthy growth and larger leaves with more slits.
